Our Story

Since 1946, the professionals at Quigley-Smart have been providing quality heating, air conditioning, and plumbing services to Beloit, Janesville, and the surrounding areas. Our reputation for quality work and reliable service has followed throughout our long history.


Originally located at 611 2nd Street, the business was first founded in 1944 as the Quigley-Woods Company. In 1946, Jack Smart bought out his stepfather and began a new partnership with his uncle, Ray Quigley Sr., founding the Quigley Smart Company we know today.



Throughout the years, Jack performed furnace installations, service work, and more. He focused on commercial design and estimating, as well as corporate management. Eventually, Jack became chairman of the board.

By 1948, Quigley Smart had moved to our old Beloit location at 1344 Madison Rd. Soon after, the business expanded into the plumbing industry. Jack’s brother Robert Smart joined the company, focusing on plumbing and heating installations, and retiring in 1991 after more than 40 years with the family business.


In 1959 Arne Pederson joined Quigley Smart as a service technician and sales rep. After decades of devoted service to the company, Arne became president of the corporation and general manager, all while remaining a heating/air conditioning sales rep.


Fast forward to 2021, where the family owned Quigley-Smart jumped families. Now a minority and woman owned business, Elvia Johnson and family bought out Quigley. This is the year we made MANY changes. We grew into our one and only new, bigger building located at 1531 Gale Dr. Beloit, WI. Joe Sluis became our V.P. as he has been a trusted V.P. for our new sister company located in Rockford, IL- Total Plumbing and Heating LTD.


Quigley-Smart kept all our quality technicians and make sure to continue giving the rapid results you have trusted for over 75 years.
